4 EASY MONTHLY BABY PICTURE IDEAS & MILESTONE PHOTOS YOU CAN DO AT HOME
The easy way to capture Insta-worthy monthly baby pictures you'll treasure forever. With baby milestone ideas you can accomplish — even on 2 hours of sleep.
Scrolling through Pinterest for cute monthly baby photo ideas, I saw another mom’s monthly baby pictures of her babe in a little rocking chair.
There was her darling, sleeping sweetly on the seat in Month One.
Then sitting on it, and later belly laughing while standing next to the chair in Month Twelve.
It was breathtaking to see how her baby grew over that year!
And I was determined to recreate the look with my first baby.
However, I soon realized that it took two people to take the picture (one to position Baby safely in the chair and another to take the picture).
Which meant I had to wait until Tyler got home from work, by which point we were both more apt to be collapsed into our own chairs, hands splayed out over the arms, eyes half closed than to take perfectly styled baby milestone photos.
My first awkward monthly baby photo attempt
I'm not sure how that perfect social media mom pulled it off, but our pictures were awkward looking.
And I gave up by the time my girl was a few months old. A wriggly baby in a rocking chair, sticking her arms through the slats was a recipe for disaster!
Since then, I’ve learned you can still shoot adorable monthly milestone photos—without all the acrobatics.
4 Easy Monthly Baby Photo Ideas
Doing a monthly baby photoshoot is a fun way to ensure that you capture your baby’s milestones every month.
It also gives you flexibility and peace of mind if you didn't have a chance to document their exact first smile or first step, you still won't miss getting a picture of your little one at each important stage.
[1.] Just snap monthly baby pictures without any special props at all
First off, let me assure you there are no rules that state good baby milestone photos must have cute props of any sort. This is a busy, exhausting season, and it’s more than ok to keep it simple.
You could simply dress Baby in outfits that have a similar color palette for each month, so the pictures coordinate as a cohesive series once you have all twelve months together at the end of baby's first year.
[2.] Use the same prop in each monthly baby photo
That way you get a sense of scale to see how much your baby has grown each month. This could be as simple as including a favorite stuffy, toy, or set of blocks.
[3.] Try a basket (instead of a rocking chair)
You could position Baby in a sweet Moses basket throughout the year. They start out as a sleepy newborn, transition to a wide eyed baby, and eventually to a busy toddler, filling the basket more and more each month.
[4.] Show the month with a baby milestone card
There are so many adorable baby milestone markers and discs out there now that you can include to show your baby's age in each monthly baby photo!
To make it easy, we’ve just released our newest design, our 15 Baby Milestone Card Collection.
They even match the font and phrasing of the labels used in The Short Years Baby Book.
These make a cute addition to your monthly baby pictures and help you track Baby’s growth as they reach each new milestone.
