'Twas the night before Christmas, filled with holiday cheer,

Mamas hoped babies would smile, not squirm or shed tears.

In outfits adorable, with lights twinkling bright,

They prayed dreamy Christmas photos would be captured that night! 🙏🏼

The holidays are the most magical time of the year, especially when experienced through the eyes of your little one.
As the holiday season twinkles around us, there’s no shortage of blissful scenes you’ll want to seize upon to capture the wonder of these sweet moments with your baby for years to come.

But…
Getting keepsake-worthy images of your little cherub can be easier said than done (am I right?).

Between choosing the perfect outfits, setting up the ideal backdrop (with just the right lighting), to scheming up Insta-perfect poses and photo props, the effort behind those picture-perfect scenes is no small feat to pull off.

And let’s not forget the biggest question mark of all – Baby’s unpredictable moods (just ask a few department store Santas about that one! 😄).

But the good news is, you can keep it simple and still take stunning photos of your babe right at home this Christmas.

If you too have been dreaming of the perfect baby Christmas pictures of your little one, keep reading.

4 Easy Baby’s First Christmas Photoshoot Ideas

To give you a jolly dose of inspiration, here are four of my favorite tricks for taking the most memorable baby Christmas photos with your little one.

1. Night Before Christmas Photos (during the day)

Pro-mom-secret: night-before-Christmas photos don’t actually need to be done at night (who knew?). Instead, get your baby or toddler all dolled up in their festive PJs in the morning or middle of the day when they’re happiest and snag a few photos next to the Christmas tree.

Or if you’re the risk-taking type 😄 (and your child is a sound sleeper), tiptoe into their room during naptime. Gently open the curtain a smidge to let in a wee bit of daylight, and take a photo of them blissfully asleep in their Christmas jammies.

2. Baby Christmas Pictures Under the Tree

Put your baby on a cozy blanket or in a Moses basket next to the Christmas tree dressed in their Christmas jammies. Stand on a step stool positioned next to your baby so that you can shoot a photo of your little one straight down from above. For an even more profesh holiday framing effect, be sure to include some of the Christmas tree branches in the foreground of your shot.

3. Baby Christmas Photoshoot Tree Decorating Moment

If your baby is getting older, have them help decorate the tree and take some pics. You can also get older siblings involved in the festivities by giving them an ornament to put on the tree (even if it’s already decorated) and while they’re focused on finding just the right spot to hang it, snap away grabbing precious profile shots!

4. Christmas Tree Lights at Night

For a glittering evening shot, turn off all lights in your house except the ones on your Christmas tree (if needed, place a lamp behind the tree for a little extra illumination). With your little one decked out in their Christmas PJs, position them so they’re facing the tree. With your camera flash turned off, capture this sweet and serene moment.

While these tips can definitely help give you some precious photos that will help you remember this month’s milestones forever, try not to worry about getting perfect poses. There’s something really special about capturing the essence of Christmas through the eyes of your child.

Just enjoy the process of your magical baby’s first Christmas photoshoot!
